Our story

The Umbanda Tent with Hope was born from the desire to keep the tradition of Umbanda alive within the Brazilian diaspora in Bournemouth, in the United Kingdom, welcoming people of all nationalities who seek faith, spiritual care, emotional balance, and community. Umbanda is a Brazilian religion rooted in a blend of Catholicism, Afro‑Brazilian traditions, Indigenous practices, and elements of Kardecist Spiritism. This fusion created a unique form of spirituality based on charity, mediumship, and the pursuit of doing good. During the giras (spiritual gatherings), spiritual lines work to share their wisdom, emanate peace and protection, and support those who seek healing, balance, and inner transformation. Umbanda is inclusive and welcomes everyone, regardless of origin, gender, sexual orientation, or previous beliefs. The house is led by Pai de Santo Father Herik, the spiritual leader responsible for guiding the giras and supporting the development of the mediumistic group. Mãe Pequena Wilza assists the spiritual current, organizes the work, and coordinates the mediums, ensuring that all are received with respect, safety, and care. Open giras take place on Fridays, starting at 7:00 p.m., with recommended arrival at 6:45 p.m. There is usually no session on the third Friday of the month, so it is recommended to check the house’s updated schedule for confirmed dates and activities. Spiritual assistance is free of charge, following Umbanda’s principle of charity. The house is maintained through voluntary donations from those who wish and are able to contribute.
